Paper presented at the 4th International Scientific Conference on Inclusion: tools, paths and perspectives by UNISI
The REVERS-ED project was presented at the 4th International Scientific Conference on Inclusion: tools, paths and perspectives, organized by the University Giustino Fortunato (Benevento). The contribution, titled “Trends in educational inequalities over time. A focus on the problem with the gender perspective”, was presented by Sabina Leoncini, a professor from the Ministry of Education and Merit of Italy, member of the UNISI team of the consortium.
The conference, held on October 22, 2024, brought together scholars from various disciplines to discuss topics related to social and educational inclusion. Leoncini´s presentation focused on gender equality and its implications in the Vocational Education and Training (VET) sector. According to the 2023 Gender Equality Index, Europe is still far from achieving gender equality, highlighting the need to implement gender policies from an intersectional perspective.
Leoncini emphasized that gender stereotypes perpetuated by school curricula, role models played by teachers, and other pedagogical resources are key factors contributing to horizontal and vertical segregation in the inclusion of women and men in educational and professional fields. In her intervention, she presented activities carried out in her VET school to help students become aware of their potential and capabilities. The results showed that education for gender equality begins by identifying episodes in school life where students felt judged based on their gender, economic situation, or academic performance. The conference also featured panels on topics such as inclusion in public administration, gender diversity, and educational inequalities and inclusive learning practices.
The participation of REVERS-ED in this event underscores the importance of addressing educational inequalities from a gender perspective and the need for effective interventions to promote more inclusive and equitable education in Europe.
